Hollywood Star on the Rise: Cameron Monaghan

Cameron Monaghan is just 23 years old, but he’s already made quite the name for himself in Hollywood. He first came to light back in 2003 when he starred in the ABC television adaptation of The Music Man alongside veterans Kristin Chenoweth and Matthew Broderick.

Monaghan later dabbled his feet in a number of feature film roles including Safe Harbor, Santa Clause 3, and Another Harvest Moon. But it wasn’t until his critically acclaimed performances in the television series Gotham and Shameless that Monaghan really received the attention he deserved.

Cameron Monaghan is best known for his memorable roles in Shameless and Gotham. In Gotham, he plays the young psychopath Jerome Valeska, who is said to be the younger version of the famous DC villain The Joker.

But Monaghan’s talent in acting truly shines in Shameless, where he got to portray Ian Gallagher. Cameron Monaghan plays the gay teenager with so much honesty, he gained praises from several critics in the industry. His character went on to be part of Hollywood.com’s list of Favorite LGBTQ characters on TV. Being part of such a talented cast that includes William H. Macy, Joan Cusack, and Emmy Rossum may be intimidating for a young actor like Monaghan, but he managed to hold his own and mesmerizes onscreen.

Future Projects

Hollywood Star

According to Deadline, Cameron Monaghan will play the lead role in the upcoming supernatural/young adult film, Anna Dressed in Blood. The movie will be based on the book of the same name by Kendare Blake. Twilight creator Stephanie Meyer, Meghan Hibbett, and Lisa Wilson are set to produce the upcoming film, which centers around a boy with the unlikely ability to see and destroy malevolent spirits. He finally meets his match when he encounters the infamous town ghoul that the villagers call Anna Dressed in Blood (played by Maddie Hasson).

“We literally searched the world for over a year to find the perfect actors to bring this genre-spanning story to life. Cameron and Maddie, both so talented individually, together have that rare and extraordinary chemistry that lights up the screen,” Meyer told Variety on the decision to cast Monaghan. Trish Sie has the perfect background to visually translate Kendare Blake’s compelling story in a way that speaks to the modern viewer.”

Monaghan can also be seen next year in the 2017 horror film Amityville: The Awakening, in which he will play the twin brother of former Disney star Bella Thorne.
