Everyone’s favorite antagonist Jason Vorhees is coming back to the big screen to wreak havoc once again. But do not expect it to be the same linear plot line involving hormonal teenagers getting slashed gruesomely to death. Rumors have it that the story will focus on Jason and may finally explain the secret behind his immortality; therefore, this new franchise is not really a sequel to the 2009 remake.

2. IT

The homicidal harlequin is set to once again terrorize the big screen with this terrifying remake. The movie, which is based on the Stephen King novel and supernatural television series of the same name, tapped True Detective‘s Cary Fukunuga as the director, but he left just weeks before the film went to production.

As for the coveted role of Pennywise the killer clown, it has been reported that it was going to Maze Runner actor Will Poulter after his audition blew casting directors away. Should the project push through, this will be the first film adaptation of the popular series.

3. Suspiria

The original 1977 movie was critically acclaimed for its stylish visuals and use of vibrant colors—something you don’t normally see in horror films.

The first Resident Evil film was launched in 2002, and it has since then been one of the most highly anticipated movie franchises ever.

Once again, Milla Jovovich will take on the role of rogue Umbrella agent Alice. She will be joined by familiar faces of the series and new characters as well. This will mark the end of the Resident Evil franchise, but you never really know when the next reboot will come.

6. World War Z Part 2

Release date: June 2017

After Brad Pitt‘s World War Z came out in 2013, the movie set the whole world buzzing. It was totally different from your average zombie film and actually focused on what the world government is doing to control the epidemic rather than just focusing on a single character’s fight for survival

So with the commercial and critical success of the first movie, it was only fitting for Pitt to return to the big screen with World War Z part 2. No details of the second installment have been released yet, but many are hoping it sticks to its bloodless PG 13 action sequences and will center around how a global epidemic can affect the whole world.

7. Death House

Imagine having to enter a highly dangerous government facility filled with hardened criminals, and everything starts going wrong when the security system gets jacked. Well, that’s the rumored plot of the upcoming horror movie Death House, except these aren’t just hardened criminals. Two female government workers get stuck in a government facility filled with every iconic horror movie actor out there—and listed as part of the cast is even the devil himself.

8. Meg

Release date: 2017

Meg-Vs-Surfer

For those who adore monster horror movies, Meg will definitely cater to your needs. The movie is based on the novel Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror. It follows deep sea diver Jonas Taylor as he locates a prehistoric Megalodon and unleashes it to the ocean’s ecosystem.
