Underrated Actors of the New Generation

Hollywood can be brutal, and the opportunities can run low even for the most talented actors. Show business is an unforgiving industry, and there are many fresh new faces looking to make a name for themselves each year. With that said, it is ironic that there is a huge number of underrated actors that definitely deserve more recognition and critical respect. This list will shed light on these talented individuals who have always delivered solid performances throughout their careers.

7 Underrated Actors That Deserve More Attention

7. Djimon Hounsou

Djimon Hounsou - Underrated Actors

Djimon Hounsou has been in countless films, and he always gives his best in all of them. The problem is, his co-stars tend to steal the attention from him. For instance in Blood Diamond, his performance was somehow overshadowed by Leonardo DiCaprio, when in reality, Hounsou did a better job than the Hollywood A-lister in the movie.

6. Sean Bean

Sean Bean

There’s no doubt that Sean Bean‘s projects have something to do with the fantasy genre, and he has starred in a lot of them over the years. But this English actor is more than just “the guy who always dies,” he also happens to be incredibly talented. Case in point: the series Game of Thrones wouldn’t be as good if he didn’t participate in it.

5. William Fichtner

William Fichtner

William Fichtner isn’t exactly a household name, but his filmography extends to outstanding film and television performances. He’s played a number of roles in big blockbuster movies such as Armageddon, Independence Day: Resurgence, and had starring roles in the series Invasion and Prison Break. Fichtner definitely has talent, yet he is one of the most underrated actors in the business.

4. Tilda Swinton

Tilda Swinton

Tilda Swinton may be known for artistry, but she remains to be one of the most underrated actors ever. Her acting range deserves more recognition from award-giving bodies and critics alike, as she has this tendency to completely lose herself to every role she takes on.

3. Stephen Lang

Stephen Lang

It’s about time that Stephen Lang becomes more well-known, and maybe his recent take as a blind veteran with a deadly secret might catapult him to the level of fame that he truly deserves. Maybe the reason Lang is considered one of the most underrated actors is due to his choice of roles. Sure, playing the generic villain is okay, but he needs to kick it up a notch and choose films like his 2016 hit Don’t Breathe.

2. Emily Blunt

Emily Blunt

Emily Blunt is undeniably talented, but she goes unnoticed in many of her films that featured an all-star cast. For example, in Devil Wears Prada, everybody raved about Meryl Streep when Blunt was just as stellar. During the film, there were even instances that she exuded more star power than Anne Hathaway. Blunt also has such a diverse range as she’s done sci-fi, romantic comedy, and drama.

1. Jeremy Renner

Jeremy Renner

It may be questionable to some on why Jeremy Renner would be considered as one of Hollywood’s underrated actors, when he actually appeared in numerous Marvel blockbusters onscreen. The fact is, Renner wasn’t exactly the main star of the show and was usually thrust to the background especially with the star power of Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson. Still, Renner is a very talented actor and he is such a joy to watch in movies. So far, he has had two Oscar nominations but no wins yet. Here’s to hoping that would change in the future.
